So you want to start kayaking? Whether you have never seen water before or you are a seasoned river runner, Whitewater Training offers a course appropriate to improving your skills. Our knowledgeable trainers will ensure you are safe while developing your expertise. Whitewater Training is a river-based specialty training center; all our instructors are African Paddling Association (APA) registered (and perhaps over-qualified to teach). Most of our training is held just 100km from Johannesburg, on the Vaal River in Parys, Free State, but we also do training at other venues.
We offer a Beginner’s Kayak School, which combines basic river skills with some rolling and strokes, providing an all-in-one package to begin your kayaking pleasure. Afterwards, an individual Rolling Clinic will help you to perfect your roll, or you can even learn to roll from scratch at this clinic. The Strokes Clinic is specially designed to help you perfect your strokes.
We also provide Freestyle Clinics, where you can learn all the skills you need to compete in regular rodeo competitions.
For paddlers who want to start exploring the many suitable rivers, a Creeking course will help you understand the more advanced concepts of whitewater paddling. We also strongly recommend the Swiftwater Rescue course, so you and your friends can stay safe and enjoy many happy years of paddling.
