Swiftwater Rescue Clinic for Recreational Paddlers
(This document applies to the Vaal River only)

This course seeks to educate recreational river users, kayakers, crocers, adventure racers, rafters, and tubers, in the necessary rescue strategies for everyday river use. Swiftwater Rescue deals with the identification, prevention and rescue of incidents in various whitewater hazards, starting with the ability to look after oneself and then the rescue of others. All paddlers, especially those taking less experienced paddling partners and teammates with them, need to have up-to-date, regular training in Swiftwater Rescue and First Aid.

One of the worst feelings must be “If I had done the Swiftwater Rescue Course maybe John would not be quite so dead”. Adventure Racers who have attended a few Swiftwater Rescue Clinics are more likely to rescue someone and prevent injuries or death.

There are different types of Swiftwater Rescue Courses for different interests. Some specialize in courses for guides and for the rescue professional, whilst others are developed specifically for the recreational river user, kayaker, croc rafter and for Adventure Racers.
